Photo by Ian LivingstonIt’s a good morning out there, if only for the fact that we got a taste of fall last night. I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the nice evening, which for once featured not only sub-90 degree temperatures, but also a lack of severe storms. Autumn is an elusive beast, so this is likely just a tease. This weekend will be warm, with highs in the 80s, but we’ll hopefully have a chance to dry out a bit. Lows will dip into the 60s again, so here’s where I tell you to enjoy it while you can.
>> Metro to add more patrols this weekend. Beginning last night, Metro Transit Police have stepped up their presence on the rails, hoping to prevent any further violence. As you might remember, there was a huge brawl last Friday that began at Gallery Place and ended at L’Enfant Plaza. Police will be using various strategies this weekend to stem violence, including preventing large groups of teens from boarding the same cars. Good luck is all I have to say on this subject.
>> Not that preseason matters, but the Redskins defeated the Bills 42-17. Of course this is so early it means very little, but with the week Washington had I think we’ll all collectively rejoice in this feat. It’s a long month until we face Dallas in a game that matters, but McNabb and company have given us something to be optimistic about. Right?
>> Cleveland Park launches its own business association. Why in the world didn’t they have one before? Well, they did, but it vanished in 2004 and according to the Washington Business Journal, no one can remember who ran it. The new Cleveland Park Business Association is hoping to stem the tide of business closures along the Connecticut Avenue retail corridor. The Business Association enters the fray with the Cleveland Park Citizens Association, the Cleveland Park Historical Society, the ANC and of course the Listserv. At best this will help encourage business development, at worst it will provide more fodder for bloggers.
