FOOD & DRINK: D.C. Beer Week kicks off at Nerd Nite (beer edition) at the Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street NE) tonight. Greg Engert, Beer Director at ChurchKey; Brian Strumke, Founder and Brewer at Stillwater Artisanal Ales; Chuck Cook, Belgian Beer Connoisseur; and Tracy Jill Doty of the NIH, will be on hand for the beer, knowledge, and music event. At 6:30 p.m., hear presentations on “The History, Artistry, and Science of Beer,” and at 10, the New Rock Church of Fire performs. Each event is $10, or pay $16 for both.
DANCE: The Dance DC Festival begins tonight at the Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H Street NE). Come for the opening reception and an evening of Carnival Africana! performances. Events continue through Sunday. 6 p.m., free.
MOVIES: Of Fresh and Blood is the story of infamous porn star John Holmes. It was put together by film student and D.C. local Jeff Mentges in the early nineties, featured D.C. talent, and premiered at the Biograph Theater in Washington. It plays tonight only at the AFI Silver Theater (8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring). 9:30 p.m., $10.
