Virginia Attorney General Ken “The Cooch” Cuccinelli has been a pretty busy guy of late. But when he isn’t circumventing the General Assembly to push through tighter regulations on abortion clinics or actually rendering a decision regarding where people can display religious displays, he’s lending his name to an effort to shut down the sordid corners of Craigslist.

According to a report in the Examiner, Cuccinelli, along with Maryland attorney general Douglas Gansler and cosigners from 15 other states, have called for Craigslist to remove its “adult services” section under the accusation that it is a breeding ground for prostitution and human trafficking.

“The adult services section of Craigslist.com has become a forum for inviting illegal — and potentially very dangerous — activity throughout Virginia,” Cuccinelli said. “Given the frequency that law enforcement finds these ads on the site, it seems clear that whatever monitoring Craigslist may be doing of posts is not sufficient.”

Craigslist did remove several sections of its website after Phillip Markoff allegedly used the website to meet three people, one of whom he stood accused of murdering. (Markoff recently committed suicide while awaiting trial in a Boston jail.) The website makes several millions of dollars yearly by selling personal ads, and has come under heavy fire of late regarding what is perceived as a lax attitude against potential crimes being perpetrated through the website.
