Regardless of how much more fun it is to watch an NFL football game at home — no traffic, no lines, no $8 beers, no bad sightlines, no ludicrous ticket prices, plus a comfortable seat in front of RedZone (oh, sweet, sweet RedZone) — than it is at the stadium, the National Football League would really prefer it if people actually showed up to the game. That’s why the league has such a draconian blackout policy and clings to geographic prioritization with a death grip. This Sunday’s Redskins game won’t have any problem meeting the attendance requirement to be shown on broadcast television in Washington, but its 4:15 start time does mean that the Redskins won’t be broadcast on D.C.’s CBS affiliate, WUSA9, until the Baltimore Ravens game, which begins at 1 p.m., finishes. To their credit, WUSA9 is upfront about it, stating “[a]gain, it’s not our call, and hopefully it won’t happen.”
