As summer winds down, but the muggy heat remains, take a day to wander at Hains Point, the island between the Washington Channel and the Potomac River. With 320 free parking spaces, the island is the ideal destination for an early evening drive. The island, a part of East Potomac Park, has a concrete path for pedestrians and bikers that rings the perimeter of the island, and on weekends, the part of Ohio Drive leading to Hains Point is also car-free, perfect for bikers and skaters.
