Wavves’ Nathan Williams will hopefully keep the fire at The Rock and Roll Hotel Monday night. MONDAY
After a string of questionable antics last year, it’s clear that Wavves singer Nathan Williams is unlikely to win any personality contests. No matter. Like its title suggests, the band’s new album King of the Beach is bursting with shiny, obnoxiously catchy pop that deserves to be played loud and often. Tune out during the banter and it should be a good night. Opening is Christmas Island and Laughing Man. At the Rock and Roll Hotel. $14, 8:30 p.m.
>>9:30 Club: James, Ed Harcourt. $27.50, 7:00 p.m.
>>Birchmere: Macy Gray. $45, 7:30 p.m.
TUESDAY
Say what you will about Detroit’s Electric Six, but at least they have a sense of humor. Back in 2003, the band had a string of novelty hits that still haunt the lower wrung of “indie” dance night playlists. Electric Six’s profile is considerably lower these days, but they soldier on undeterred, having released a new album every year since 2005 (!). They will be at the Black Cat with The Constellations. $15, 8:00 p.m.
>> DC9: Film School, The Depreciation Guild. $10, 9:00 p.m.
>> 9:30 Club: Stars, Wild Nothing. Sold out, 7:00 p.m.
>> Iota: Breathe Owl Breathe, Strand of Oaks. $10, 8:30 p.m.
