Come heat-pocalypse, rain-pocalypse or snow-pocalypse, there’s always some weather event topping the news. Well, it doesn’t take this weekend editor to tell you that Fall is here. Just step outside and feel the brisk breeze on your un-jacketed arms (mom says put on a sweater) or the crunch of newly-fallen leaves under your flip flops (really, summer is over). Nevertheless, the sub-80 degree weather shouldn’t stop you from enjoying any number of events around town today and tomorrow.
>> Arlington health officials are warning that anyone in Reagan National’s Terminal C Thursday morning may have been exposed to measles. Between 8:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., someone with the illness is reported to have been in the terminal. Although those who were on the plane with the individual have already been notified, the Arlington Public Health department is taking steps is cast a wider net as a precaution. While your mother may be scolding you right now for catching a cold from this cool weather, officials recommend contacting a doctor if measles symptoms arise.
>> Fairfax County can now tack on three more victims for the serial burglar hitting the county, according to WTOP. The total number of burglaries, now up to 87 from 85 from last week, is a mix of reported burglaries, attempts, thefts from cars and reports of suspicious persons. The latest three incidents occurred in a region not previously targeted. In addition to locking all entrances and keeping valuables from plain sight, Fairfax County Police Department also recommends making sure kids lockup when coming home late at night. Otherwise someone is going to get grounded …
>> D.C. Fire Chief Dennis L. Rubin has suggested the possibility that an exit was purposefully blocked with furniture in Wednesday morning’s Columbia Heights apartment fired, which has already claimed one life. Though reluctant to say, investigators suspect the 16th Street fire is a result of arson and are looking into whether an accelerant was used. Donations for the 125 displaced residents are being organized by Martha’s Table.
