Name the most dangerous neighborhood in the District. Go ahead. Did you come up with “L Street SE”? Yeah, neither did we.

But according to Wallet Pop, the neighborhood stretching along L Street SE from South Capitol Street to 11th Street SE is not only the District’s most dangerous, but also the ninth most dangerous in the entire country. The achievement (top 10, baby!) is based on numbers from NeighborhoodScout.com, which broke down data from the Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI and found that you’ve got a one in nine chance of being a victim of crime — both violent and property — in the area. Even more frightening, the predicted annual violent crimes for the neighborhood reaches 240. That’s a lot for a few blocks of real estate.

Should you be afraid? Not really.
