So what happens when you combine the instantaneous communication of Twitter with a extended dispute over regulatory guidelines at a Washington pub? Lots of drama, duh.
Those who follow Adams Morgan beer and burger joint The Black Squirrel on Twitter know that it’s quite the prolific user. So it’s no surprise that those behind the bar’s Twitter account have decided to use it to discuss the delay in getting work permits for a 1,000-square-foot entertainment space on the bottom floor of the bar’s 2427 18th Street NW location. The permits for the space — which the Squirrel says will feature “25-30 tap lines” — have been held up over the last 18 months.
That’s where the drama comes in. Since this tweet went up on Monday night, the bar’s Twitter feed has featured a boatload of messages disparaging the practices and employees of the District’s Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. From 5:30 p.m. on Monday until now, the Squirrel’s Twitter account has pounded out at least 40 tweets which directly reference the agency, and several more that bear at least a passing reference to their beef with DCRA, several of them quite barbed, like the one above.
