If there is one aspect of the Stewart/Colbert rally which hasn’t yet been examined under an electron microscope by the Washington and New York media, it’s what part D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton will have in tomorrow’s ceremonies. Sure, I imagine that she’s one of the many “to be announced” in that schedule which leaked the other day — but given Norton’s long history of playful sparring (and her friendship) with Stephen Colbert, I had figured that there would be something bigger in store. Turns out I was kind of right: Norton has challenged Colbert to get his drink on. At The Passenger, no less!

Mixologist Derek Brown sent us an email this morning to clue us in to a drink that his brother Tom has invented specifically for the rally called the “Norton’s Revenge.” (The Passenger is hosting an official March to Keep Fear Alive Happy Hour event on Saturday from 3-7 p.m.) The Browns won’t divulge what is in the beverage (“don’t ask what’s in it, you don’t want to know”), but based on Norton’s reaction to the drink in Roll Call, we’re sure it is awesome:

“Let me say that Eleanor is going to be at the rally to deliver her revenge one way or another in person,” Norton said after hearing of the cocktail.

She added that she hopes Colbert will get a chance to taste the drink.

“I expect it to be the strongest and most caustic drink ever served in the District of Columbia, befitting the name,” Norton said.

Look at the Delegate, throwing down the gauntlet! The Passenger, inspired by Norton’s words of strength, have put together an online movement to convince Colbert to come to the bar and try his hand at the beverage that’s reportedly as ferociously potent as Norton’s stance on Capitol Visitor Center employee safety. Aside from the challenge, we highly recommend the drink, since a portion of the proceeds from sales of “Norton’s Revenge” go to DonorsChoose.org, which helps support classrooms and teachers across the country.

What say you, Colbert? Are you man enough to take on the drinking challenge of a septuagenarian Congresswoman?
