Photo by coolsneakers2000Good Morning Washington. And why the hell are you inside reading the internet now? The sun is shining, the air is brisk, but manageable, oh, and there’s some sort of rally later today. All reports indicate that the metro is already packed to the gills, driving will be torturous and WABA recommends not biking down to the Mall. So, unless you own a flying unicorn or can steal a trusty steed from the horse show at the Verizon Center, plan for an irksome commute this weekend. For those of you staying in, here are today’s news tidbits:
>> A D.C. police officer was killed in a traffic accident early this morning while responding to the scene of an incident. At around 1:30 a.m., Officer Paul Dittamo, 32, crashed into a Pepco pole on the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE. A second officer is being treated for non-life threatening injuries and remains at a local hospital. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
>> A slew of suspicious packages speckled the D.C. region late yesterday. D.C. police responded to a suspicious package on the 4900 block of Connecticut Avenue at about 8:40 p.m. last night. Later, the north entrance of the Columbia Heights metro station was closed due to another suspicious package. And in the nether regions of the north, police responded to a leaking package in the BWI airport cargo area. All scenes have been cleared.
