A broken twelve-inch water main on Pennsylvania Avenue NW could affect traffic and water service in the Foggy Bottom/West End area until 7 p.m. this evening, based on the latest estimates from D.C. Water. Circulator buses are currently detouring around the area. Currently, one building — 2121 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, a commercial property — has no water service. Other buildings in that area may be experiencing low water pressure. D.C. Water crews are currently excavating the area and are not sure what kind of a break it is or what caused the main to burst. “We don’t know if its a split or a break,” said D.C. Water spokesperson Pamela Mooring. “There are going to be some road repairs needed,” she added. Mooring said that the repair estimate will be updated as crews figure out exactly what kind of damage was done to the main this afternoon.
