D.C. portrayed inaccurately? In a Hollywood production? Yeah, it’s not the first time. I’m sure it won’t be the last. But it’s still worth pointing out when it happens: And Now, Anacostia’s (and now ANC 6D07 representative) David Garber bemoans Anacostia’s poor treatment in the Fox TV show Bones.

The dialogue went something like this:

Hannah: What do you know about Anacostia?

Booth: It’s a neighborhood about a mile and a half from here: seedy, prostitution, lots of gangs, bad activity…why?

Sweets: Anacostia? That’s a really tough part of town.

Booth: Not compared to downtown Kabul, it’s not.

Sigh. Is Anacostia the wealthiest, safest part of town? Surely not. But to portray our fair city’s East River area as not bad compared to Kabul is just too much. But remember, this is the show that makes tourist call the Founding Farmers restaurant Founding Fathers, so that’s fun.
