Did everyone see the image of the fire in Falls Church which engulfed a huge mansion early on Sunday morning? (I was at a local establishment enjoying some fine American football when the video popped up on several of the screens — several shocked obscenities were uttered from the mouths of the collected patrons.) Usually, one would expect that the surrounding neighborhood would bond together under these kind of circumstances, but WUSA9 reports that at least one of the home’s neighbors believes that people are actually pleased that the home burned to the ground:
“I think a lot of people are secretly, or not even that secretly, glad,” said one neighbor.
Neighbors say the home used to be three and a half stories, and towered over all the other homes in the community. And they say it’s been under construction for three years attracting homeless and vandals.
Wow. I can understand not agreeing with the aesthetic decisions that one of your neighbors chose to pursue on their multi-million dollar dream home. But I would also assume that the absolute least someone could offer in the 48 hours after said home burned to the ground would be a little bit of compassion.
