Good morning, Washington. How would you perform at your job if you knew that you couldn’t fail? That’s the interesting experiment currently being performed at West Potomac High School in Alexandria. The school has decided to no longer give Fs on students’ report cards; instead, the school sent out report cards featuring Is, for incomplete, an indication that students still owe essential work. An interesting strategy, especially for a school whose students reportedly racked up around than 2,000 Fs at the end of last year. The policy doesn’t have a whole lot of allies — teachers (who think it removes one of the more effective deterrents to poor performance), administrators (who need to arrange for teachers to work harder to teach to students who get an I), passing students (who are afraid that the elimination of Fs might create additional competition in the college application process) and parents (who find the system totally unfair) all appear to hate the idea. The principle — that, given enough chances, any student can show competency — is all warm and fuzzy, no question. But the telling analogy made late in the Post’s write-up — “some people pass their driver’s license test the first time, while others need four or five tries” — is pretty flawed.

Three Prince George’s County Police Officers Arrested: More news this morning in the Jack Johnson corruption scandal: three Prince George’s County police officers have reportedly been arrested in connection with the same investigation that resulted in the arrest of County Executive Johnson and his wife on Friday. ABC7 reports that additional search warrants, executed around the County, were expected to bring additional arrests. Johnson has stated that he would “be vindicated” of the tampering and evidence destruction charges. Johnson will be showing up for work today.

Guandique Defense Takes Its Turn: Will accused Chandra Levy killer Ingmar Guandique take the stand? It’s doubtful — but despite accusations of sloppy police work, the testimony against Guandique in the trial has been damning — it should be very interesting to see if the defense rolls the dice and lets Guandique testify.

Are You Ready For Some Football?: We’re not expecting much productivity from most of Washington this evening, as the Redskins’ biggest game of the season to date is tonight at FedEx Field. The Redskins, fresh off a bye and two straight weeks of talk about Donovan McNabb’s pouty-face, will battle the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. If you’re heading to the game (or to a bar to watch on TV), Metro will stay open for an extra hour tonight; for those at FedEx, the last Blue Line trains headed toward Franconia-Springfield will depart Largo Town Center at 12:24 and Morgan Boulevard station at 12:27. Parking at both Largo and Morgan Boulevard stations will cost you $25, and cash is not accepted.

This Day in DCist: One year ago, brass at Arlington National Cemetery began investigating mis-marked graves (an investigation which is still uncovering improprieties to this day); in 2008, Stephen Colbert made a bunch of politicians laugh for a good cause.
