After Carla Cohen, co-owner and founder of quintessential Washington bookstore Politics & Prose, died last month, the DC literary community lost an icon. To celebrate her life and her contribution to DC’s cultural scene, Politics & Prose will hold a memorial for Cohen tomorrow at 1 pm.

There will be a number of speeches, giving tribute to Cohen, from icons in the DC writing scene. Speakers will include co-owner and co-founder of Politics & Prose Barbara Mead and Pulitzer-prize winning New Yorker reporter Seymour Hersch, among others. Given this, the store expects a pretty packed event – so if you plan on attending, get there early.

If you can’t attend, the memorial will be livestreamed by on Politics & Prose’s website via livestream.

This is also, in a way, a memorial for all that Mead and Cohen were able to make of Politics & Prose, as they have put the 26-year-old store up for sale following Cohen’s cancer diagnosis.
