Photo by pablo.raw.Good morning, Washington. As a dense fog settled in over Washington this morning, many Redskins fans were likely reflecting on a Sunday in which their team not only won a football game, but also sent Titans quarterback Vince Young off the deep end. This actually might be an entertaining role for the Redskins to embrace after the embarrassment against Philadelphia: a team that will drive its opponents completely insane with inconsistency. Of course, one side effect of such a strategy is that all Redskins fans will also go nuts, too. But that’s already happened, right?
Despite Budget Gap, Gray Pushes Education Plan: Despite the fact that D.C. is currently working to bridge a $175 million budget gap (and is staring down the barrel of much larger gaps in the future), Mayor-elect Vince Gray promised educators on Friday that he would still pursue his aggressive “birth-through-24” educational program, one of his biggest campaign promises. Gray wasn’t ignorant of the current budget climate, though he didn’t say how much money he was seeking to institute the program. We’ll be interested to see how far his plan to redistribute federal dollars and solicit private partners will get him before the words “revenue generation” pop up. Gray will hold a “State of the Budget” address this morning to discuss the current shortfall.
Johnsons’ Arrest: Will It Affect P.G. County?: If you ask the Maryland General Assembly, it won’t. Members of the state legislature tell WTOP that they don’t think the arrests will affect the county’s standing when the Assembly’s new session begins in January — though they are excited about new county Rushern Baker taking over (well, duh) and will likely propose new legislation putting a clampdown on campaign donations from applicants for zoning changes. Of course, not everyone is so optimistic. In a Sunday editorial, the Post feared that Leslie Johnson may use her County Council seat as a “bargaining chip” with investigators and note that she will have the deciding vote in some important votes concerning development once she takes her seat. Meanwhile, Courtland Milloy is so embarrassed by the scandal that he doesn’t even want people to know” he lives in the County.
Levy Trial Set To Resume Today: Will there be a verdict today? Smart money has to be on the jury handing a decision down before Thanksgiving — but, of course, we’ve seen crazier things.
Briefly Noted: Does the IRS owe you money?…Wage theft reportedly on the rise in the District…The District Curmudgeon takes a bike tour through Wards 5 and 7…Area food banks experiencing record need.
This Day in DCist: With the Pope writing that, in certain cases, condom use is acceptable, it’s only fair to highlight this post from last year, when the Catholic Church admitted it would welcome aliens to worship with them — only if, you know, they weren’t gay.
