VARIETY: Family Hemerlein is a “music/comedy/crushes variety show” featuring musician Matthew Hemerlein, hip-hop artist Terrence Cunningham, Laura Burhenn of The Mynabirds, comedians Seaton Smith and Sean Patton and others, at the Gibson Guitar Showroom (709 G Street NW). Drinks start at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 9. $15.

MOVIE: The Washington Psychotronic Film Society presents the the quirky 1970s film Let’s Visit the World of the Future at The Passenger (1021 7th Street NW). Learn more about the movie in last week’s Popcorn & Candy. 8 p.m. Free, but a $2 donation is suggested.

FOOD & DRINK: Spirit of the Festival is a cocktail and food-pairing contest and tasting event featuring five chef-mixologist teams from Founding Farmers, Urban Bistro, PS7’s, Equinox and Aria at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center (1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW). The pre-event mixer starts at 6 p.m., the festival goes from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets to pre-event mixer $79, main event $55.

CLASS: Learn how to make boozey cupcakes (like Red Velvet Chocolate Port Cupcakes and Guinness Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting) and then pair them with wine at an Adult Cupcakes Demo at Open Kitchen (7115 Leesburg Pike, #107, Falls Church). 6:30-9:30 p.m. $55.

MUSIC: The Red Palace (1210 H Street NE) hosts Canadian noise-rockers PS I Love You along with openers Tennis System and Holiday Shores. 8:30 p.m. $10.
