Sunday morning sports talk seems to be revolving around the disastrous collapse of the Metrodome — more specifically, how the implosion is a giant metaphor for the Vikings’ performance this season. What about the Redskins, what catastrophic event can be equated to our teams similarly dismal 5-7 record? A train wreck into the side of FedEx Field, or perhaps the stadium falling into a crater-like sinkhole. Either way, the Redskins don’t have a reprieve this week and are slated to try to save face in just 15 minutes.

>> A building near the site of where a DPW employee was shot and killed in October was named in his honor Friday. Larry Hutchins was slain in the parking lot of a DPW facility, leaving one other man injured. “I think it’s very fitting that we dedicate this building in his honor,” said D.C. Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham who was on hand for the dedication ceremony along with DPW director William O. Howland Jr. The incident is still under investigation.

>> Normally rain can’t dampen the parade on any weekend night in Adams Morgan, and unsurprisingly a broken water main can’t either. An eight-inch water main burst on 18th Street between Columbia and Belmont Roads NW. Repairs began at 5:30 p.m. and lasted several hours. While some DC Water costumers may have been affected, businesses in the area remained open and unaffected.

>> Saturday morning saw a slew of shootings in SE, leaving one dead and four injured. The first occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on the 1700 block of 14th Street SE. The man was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Soon after, MPD responded to a second call of three shooting victims nearby. A fifth victim later showed up at the hospital saying he had been shot in the same incident. Police believe all the incidents may be related to a party occurring in the area that night.
