UPDATE: As of 12:30 p.m., the affected streets appear to have opened up and our tipster tells us that he has been let back into his office building. No word on what the package was as of yet. The 1400 block of K Street NW has been cut off to pedestrian and vehicular traffic as authorities investigate a suspicious package near the intersection of 14th and K Streets. The Secret Service is reportedly assisting in the investigation, which has drawn a sizable police presence to the area. At least one building around the area has been evacuated — a tipster tells DCist that employees at that building, the address of which was not specified located at 1012 14th Street NW, were taken out the back door. According to DDOT, K Street is closed from 13th Street to Vermont Avenue and L Street is closed from 14th Street to Vermont Avenue. You’ll want to avoid the area until the situation is cleared up.
