This morning, fire and hazmat crews responded to a report of a chemical spill in the basement of the Capital Hilton, located at 1001 16th Street NW. According to D.C. Fire and EMS, the hazard has been contained, there were no injuries and evacuations of the hotel and nearby buildings were not required. The spill was apparently located in a non-public area in the basement of the hotel; a contractor has arrived on the scene and is working on getting it cleaned up. Traffic around the location along L Street and 16th Street was affected by the response; DCist tipsters say that access to at least one garage on L Street was restricted.
