  • The autopsy of Ali Ahmed Mohammed — the man who died near DC9 on October 15 under suspicious circumstances — is finally complete, and results will be revealed to the public as soon as the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is able to notify Mohammed’s family.
  • In addition to confirming the news that he would be retaining Cathy Lanier as Chief of Police and bringing aboard Kenneth Ellerbe as D.C. Fire and EMS Chief, Mayor-elect Vince Gray also named former House of Representatives general counsel Irv Nathan as the city’s next Attorney General. Initial reactions to the appointment appear to be concentrating on one of the following: Nathan looks a lot like current AG Peter Nickles, he’s not black or a woman, and he was once told that he “insulted not only the city government, but everyone living in D.C.”
  • Shocking: the police union isn’t thrilled that Lanier is keeping her job.
  • Bag searches weren’t the only big news to drop at the WMATA board’s safety meeting today: Chris Zimmerman (who is leaving to chair the Arlington County Board full-time) and Gordon Linton (who is retiring) are both stepping down from the board. More analysis from Greater Greater Washington.
  • Any good Metro news out there? Well, there’s only been one attempted suicide in the system since August, and that individual survived.
  • Sounds like the complaints about D.C.’s allegedly flawed Breathalyzers are destined for court.
  • The Nationals traded away outfielder Josh Willingham today, picking up a couple of prospects from the Oakland Athletics. Willingham was deemed surplus to requirements after the team signed right fielder Jayson Werth.
  • DDOT has a super-cool (read: super-nerdy) weather station which will allow you to keep an eye on six busy stretches of road at once.
