Morning Washington. This is a joint effort from your weekend editors, so on the behalf of both of us we hope you celebrated the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell last night. The Senate passed the bill 65-31 yesterday afternoon, now all the bill needs is President Obama’s signature and the policy will be history. What a big victory for gay rights.

>> The store manager of Newton Market was shot and killed during a robbery in the Brookland neighborhood of Northeast last night. The shooting took place at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of 12th Street NE, a few blocks from the CUA-Brooklyn Metro Station. Police are asking the public for any information on the incident.

>> There was also a shooting at 15th and Fuller Streets NW at 5:45 this morning. MPD says that following reports of gun shots, they discovered a shooting victim receiving treatment at a local hospital. No further word on the victim’s condition.

>> After a horrible start to the 2010-11 season, the Wizards have traded their star player, Gilbert Arenas. Arenas simply told his teammates, “I’m gone” as he was traded to Orlando for Rashard Lewis. Maybe Obama knew that Arenas had been traded when he decided not to come to last night’s game.

>> The Alexandria City Council has approved the creation of a special tax district to help finance the building of a Potomac Yards Metro station. The new measure would tax 20 cents per $100 of a property’s assessed value, going towards funding a $240 million Metro station on the existing Blue line. WTOP reports that a second tax has been proposed, but has met staunch opposition from from residents. At the earliest, the new station would open in 2016.
