Photo by furcafe.Last Thursday, we reported that popular H Street NE restaurant Sticky Rice had been temporarily closed by the Metropolitan Police Department after a “non-fatal stabbing incident” occurred on their property on December 29. We’ve now received word that the restaurant has reopened — but will not be serving alcohol until an upcoming hearing with the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration.
As far as what happened that evening, some more details are beginning to leak out: H Street neighborhood blog Frozen Tropics reports that “some random crazy guy attempted to enter Sticky [R]ice” that night, and “was immediately ejected, but ran back in and slashed another patron in the hand as he ran back out.” The man was reportedly arrested shortly after committing the assault. Phil Rodriguez, part of the consortium which owns the restaurant, released this statement regarding the restaurant’s operating status yesterday:
Sticky Rice will be reopening tomorrow, January 3rd. We will be open for our regular lunch and dinner service but will not be serving alcohol until after our upcoming Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) hearing. We deeply regret the inconvenience that the shutdown has caused our patrons and employees, but are greatly looking forward to being open this week and appreciate the continued support of the H St community.
Thanks,
Phil Rodriguez
Sticky Rice, DC
ABRA has a show cause hearing regarding the restaurant scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
