As 2011 came to a close, there was some confusion about who was going to be in charge of several of the District’s agencies once new Mayor Vince Gray was inaugurated. One of those agencies was DDOT, which remained without new leadership weeks after outgoing director Gabe Klein was informed he would not be retained in early December. That changed today: Terry Bellamy, who was serving as DDOT’s deputy director of operations under Klein, will take over on an interim basis. Dave Jamieson gets the scoop on the news, reporting that this memo made the rounds at DDOT headquarters this morning:

Message from Terry Bellamy:
Dear DDOT Staff,

As many of you have probably already heard, I have been asked to serve as the Interim Director of DDOT until a permanent Director is appointed by Mayor Gray. I don’t know how long I will serve in this capacity, but regardless please continue doing what you’re doing, keep working on all the projects and programs that make DDOT shine.

When I know more about who will lead the agency moving forward, I will share that information with you. In the meantime, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me, my assistant Felicia Banks, or our Chief of Staff Jeffrey Powell.

Thank you,

Terry Bellamy

Bellamy came to DDOT in March 2008 after spending eight years in a leadership role with Arlington County’s Transportation Department. According to DDOT, Bellamy has held “oversight over the Department’s most crucial administrations” and manages “daily operations of construction projects and street management and maintenance throughout the District.”
