The first week of 2011 is a excruciatingly slow one for hip-hop in the District — but there are a couple of highlights to share:

Wednesday:
>> British-born, Atlanta-based vocalist Julie Dexter will be taking the Blues Alley stage for two shows in support of her forthcoming album, New Again. $20+$12.50/person minimum. 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Friday:
>> DJ/producer Quentin Harris began making a name for himself on the house music scene almost 10 years ago. Now, the Detroit native is one of the more in-demand remixers around. He’ll be at U Street Music Hall for “Red Fridays,” with local Chris Burns spinning the opening set. Free before 11 p.m. / $10 after 11 p.m. Doors open at 10 p.m.
