There must be something about cold weather and snow that makes D.C. police officers rather antsy. The New Haven Register reports that a D.C. police officer is facing reckless endangerment and other charges after flashing a semi-automatic gun at a Connecticut bar. Shortly after closing time at the Lager House in West Haven, Danny McCullough III, a member of MPD since 2003, allegedly revealed his weapon and pointed it at the ground when bouncers attempted to escort him from the back patio of the bar.

Police reports say McCullough argued with the bouncers after one of them crushed his cup, he then picked up a glass bottle and brandished his sidearm. Witnesses told police that he may have said at that point, “That’s right it’s a real gun.” A video surveillance tape appears to show McCullough sliding the top of the gun, as if he were loading his gun. It was later revealed that he was carrying a 9mm Glock with hollow point bullets.

For anyone who was within an earshot of D.C. this time last year — and doesn’t live under a rock — all this has several shades of similarity with the snowball-gate on U Street. Although this incident was undoubtedly lubricated with the help of alcohol, both involved off duty officers.
