UPDATE: The package has been deemed non-hazardous and the station reopened to passengers at 10:02 a.m. Police have temporarily closed off access to the Capitol South Metro station due to a suspicious package near the intersection of First and D Streets SE. Trains are reportedly still running though the station, but are not stopping. It appears as if some passengers were able to get out of the station right as the suspicious package was found, but at some point, people were turned around and had to get back on a train to the next station. Shuttle bus service has been set up between Eastern Market and Federal Center SW for the time being. C Street from New Jersey Avenue to 2nd Street SE has also been closed off to traffic due to the investigation.
