Good morning, Washington. Today’s a big day for us: at noon sharp, we’ll announce the collection of images that will be on display at the 2011 DCist Exposed photography show, which will run from March 15 through 27 at Long View Gallery. Several judges have sorted through well over a thousand images in the last few days and narrowed it down to but a select number. Will yours or your favorite make the cut? Tune in at noon to find out.

D.C. Police Officer Shot During Investigation: Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department went to investigate a report of a man with a gun around 4 p.m. yesterday near the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Emerson Street NW. When they arrived and found a man who matched the description, the man suddenly opened fire, grazing one of the police officers. The officer’s injuries were non-life threatening, and the man was taken into custody — police are asking anyone who witnessed the exchange to contact them at 1-888-919-CRIME.

Prince George’s Records 14th Homicide: Prince George’s County police are investigating the shooting death of a man in Suitland, their 14th homicide case of the year. The man, who has not been identified, was found suffering from gunshot wounds in a cul de sac near an apartment complex on the 3500 block of Terrace Drive. Police are unsure of motive; the killing breaks a few days of relative calm after 13 people were killed in the first two weeks of 2011. Meanwhile, three people have been arrested for a New Year’s Day killing, the first murder of the year in the County.

Recommended Reading: Since we’re a bit crime-heavy this morning, check out the Post’s profile of Laura Norton Amico. Amico started the Homicide Watch D.C. blog — a site which aims to document every killing inside the District, and has become a bit of a Cliffs Notes for those of us who keep an eye on violent crime in the city. It’s a good example of the bridge that blogs can gap between the government and its citizens. “I wanted to create something so those who don’t have the tools could share those experiences,” says Amico, One interesting twist to the story: defense attorneys aren’t thrilled about the blog, one claiming that it even “poisons any potential jury pool.”
