We get so used to reading stories about government-types sleeping on cots in their offices, believing that they need to carry handguns while they do walk around town and generally giving the “la, la, la, I can’t hear you” treatment to the entire city, that it actually warms our heart a little bit to know that there’s at least one member of the national leadership who doesn’t just give D.C. the time of day — but appears to actually like living here.

By this point, you’ve probably noticed today’s “aw shucks” story about Justice Elena Kagan, who was selected to serve on the country’s highest court by President Barack Obama last year. Kagan reported for jury duty at D.C. Superior Court today, and sat in that same big room all of us who have lived here long enough have. (I wonder if she also got to watch Ken Burns’ Baseball like I did the last time I was called.)

But Kagan isn’t just fulfilling her civic duty to the District — she’s also apparently looking to buy a home in Logan Circle. With a tip of the cap to neighborhood blog 14th and You, this report over at Above the Law says that Kagan was “recently seen inspecting…a small townhouse in the Logan Circle neighborhood.” Of course, Kagan already has broken with the majority of her fellow Justices — most of whom live in Maryland or Virginia — by living at a downtown luxury apartment building. Note to Rep. Louie Gohmert: she’s somehow managed to not get shot.

If you’re reading, Justice Kagan, you can probably go ahead and ignore David Lat’s assertion that Logan Circle “doesn’t have that many restaurants” — I assure you, there are plenty of really good places to eat in the area. Let’s grab a couple of beers at Churchkey — my treat.
