Photo used under a Creative Commons licenseVia The Consumerist, we’re informed that the world’s smallest Walmart has opened on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. With so many people in this town biting their nails and fretting over what kind of physical footprint the behemoth retailer will leave inside the District, we thought we’d note that the four planned Walmarts in the District — all of which will be approximately half the size of a typical Walmart at between 80,000 and 120,000 square feet — will still be over 22 times the size of that new Fayetteville Walmart (only about 3,500 square feet).
There’s been so much pushback against the four big Walmarts; we can only imagine what it would be like if the retailer went the Starbucks route and started popping up around town like so many CVSes.
