The New Luther. Photo courtesy of Endless Simmer.ChurchKey’s New Luther sandwich has been named the best new sandwich in America by Endless Simmer. Never seen the New Luther on the menu? That’s because it’s not on it – only ordered by those in the know, only on Sundays between noon and 8 p.m.
So what exactly is the New Luther? Well to explain that we need to tell you what the Luther is. Named for singer Luther Vandross, who allegedly created the original, the Luther is a bacon cheeseburger between not a hamburger bun, but rather a Krispy Kreme donut.
The New Luther, done in typical ChurchKey fashion, takes it up a notch. Instead of the Krispy Kreme donut, the sandwich, if you can call it that, starts with a house-made brioche donut glazed with maple-chicken jus and topped with pecans. Then we get to the filling: buttermilk fried chicken and applewood smoked bacon. Wow – now that’s a sandwich, or a heart attack on a plate, depending on whom you’re talking to.
Had the New Luther? Is it worthy of the title of best new sandwich in America?
