A fire broke out inside a four-story apartment building located along P Street NW this morning, causing the closure of the street to traffic and significant damage. D.C. Fire and EMS — who placed the building at 2121 P Street, though based on the images above, the fire appeared to be happening across the street — reports that smoke began pouring from the building shortly before 10 a.m. The fire was apparently located inside walls on the third and fourth floors of the building. Firefighters eventually were able to knock down a bulk of the fire, but smoky conditions still remained and, at last check, fire personnel were still on the scene inspecting the damage.
