Good morning, Washington. The State of the Union address is tonight and there’s plenty for President Obama to talk about, so we know that most of you will be glued to a television set this evening. The question of the day: do you prefer soaking in the message on your couch, or are you the kind of person who prefers to take in the President’s yearly update among friends or at a bar? Let us know in the comments where you’ll be watching tonight’s event.

Boehner Wants D.C. Vouchers: But who needs to wait until tonight’s speech to talk about politics? House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) will reportedly introduce legislation on Wednesday to reauthorize the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship program, a program opposed by Democrats, who phased it out two years ago. According to Politico, Boehner wrote the legislation to serve as a test of a call for bipartisan comity, which Obama will make during tonight’s address. The program, which was established in 2004, provides as much as $7,500 in tuition for Washington students to attend private schools, including religious ones. (The archbishop of Washington, Cardinal Donald W. Wuerl, and representatives from four D.C. Catholic schools will be some of Boehner’s guests at tonight’s address.) The difference between this bit of legislation and others House Republicans have presented that would affect the District so far this session? It actually has a chance to pass — Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) will introduce a companion bill in the Senate, and there are several D.C. Councilmembers in favor of reinstalling the program including Marion Barry, Michael Brown, Harry Thomas, Jr., Muriel Bowser, David Catania, Yvette Alexander and Chair Kwame Brown — leading some to believe that this could be the first thing that the new Mayor and Council Chair clash on.

Man Killed In District Heights: The 15th homicide of the month in Prince George’s County was recorded yesterday — WTTG/Fox 5 reports that a man was sitting in his car around 5 p.m. outside of a District Heights shopping center, when he was approached by the suspect, who opened fire inside the car, then ran away. Police believe the victim was targeted.

Briefly Noted: Councilmember Michael Brown still banging the “Redskins back to D.C.” drum…Man suffers severe injuries after being struck by car near Watergate…George Allen nomination no sure thing…Plane bound for Washington makes emergency landing…B-W Parkway shut down due to police investigation…Seriously, why does everyone at the Examiner have their arms crossed in their column headshots?

This Day in DCist: Last year, we checked out the Sockets Records fifth anniversary show and noted that Marion Berry was retiring; in 2009, Metro admitted that they forgot to budget for extra Inauguration service.
