HIP-HOP: ?uestlove, drummer of The Roots, celebrates his 40th birthday by performing tonight at Liv (2001 11th Street NW). 9 p.m. Tickets: $15 in advance.

COMEDY: You, Me, Them, Everybody presents the “Quick and to the Point Open Mic” comedy night at Chief Ike’s (1725 Columbia Road NW). Comics who come out have five minutes to make ’em laugh. Open mic sign up starts at 7 p.m. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Free.

FOOD & DRINK: It’s January 26th, Australia Day! But since we’re not down under, you probably didn’t know that. No worries, you can still celebrate with your mates at Room 11 (3234 11th Street NW), which will be commemorating the occasion with Aussie Burgers, Lamington cakes and a special drink, the Buderim Fizz, made with Australian sparkling chardonnay and ginger. Proceeds from the night will be donated to flood relief in Queensland, which the chef at Room 11 hails from. 5 p.m.

MOVIE: First up in The Avalon’s (5612 Connecticut Avenue NW) “Reel Israel DC” film fest is Israel’s official submission for Best Foreign Film for this year’s Oscars: The Human Resources Manager. 8 p.m. $11.

CLASSICAL: Violinist Joshua Bell, who punked metro commuters in 2007, and pianist Sam Haywood perform at the Music Center at Strathmore (5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda) on Wednesday. 8 p.m. $75-$115.

SNOW: With the snowfall and the feds getting out of work early, there’s bound to be lots of wintry fun to be had tonight, like the snowball fight at 8 p.m. in Dupont Circle and snow-related specials at bars around town when you need a break from the cold.
