We’ll be sure to remind you as the date gets closer, but you’ll probably want to get it on your calendar in advance: as part of their Year of Three-Day Weekend Closures, both the Federal Triangle and Smithsonian stations will be closed on Presidents Day weekend, February 18-21.

The skinny: there will be no Metrorail service on the Blue and Orange Lines beginning at 10 p.m. on the 18th through closing on Monday the 21st. Both lines will be split into two sections during that time so that crews can replace four track switches at the Smithsonian station. Further complicating that weekend’s work will be reduced Red Line service — trains will only run from Shady Grove and Twinbrook every 20 minutes for a large portion of the weekend, so those who transfer between Red, Orange and/or Blue, start mentally preparing now.

You can find more information from Metro about the station closures, shuttle buses and matters of that ilk here.
