Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder reportedly wants City Paper columnist Dave McKenna fired. The public, on the other hand, apparently can’t get enough of the guy.
The story about Snyder’s potential legal maneuvers against the paper been picked up — and linked to — by all sorts of national outlets, from Gawker to NBC. This in turn has driven massive amounts of visitors aching to read to McKenna’s piece, as tweets from City Paper staffers and the paper’s own account attest. It goes without saying that this attempt by Snyder to cover up information which a) everyone in Washington already knows, and b) has been floating around for nearly three months, could net little more than some beefier traffic figures for the City Paper. That, and plenty of jokes about the utter ridiculousness of the whole situation.
The saddest part about the whole scenario? It has taken Snyder’s ridiculous threats to give McKenna, who has been one of the best sports writers in this town for some time, the national recognition his excellent piece deserves.
