Good morning, Washington. So who’s registering guns in the District? According to the Washington Post, rich people. Paul Duggan reports that the number of guns registered in Georgetown, the Palisades and Chevy Chase outnumber the number of firearms registered in the entire area east of the Anacostia River. Duggan highlights 20016, whose residents have accounted for over ten percent of the total registrations since the D.C. handgun ban was overturned in 2008. The story — illustrated online with two images of a black Hillcrest resident holding his Glock handgun — concedes, however, that “there could be thousands more legal firearms in the city that were bought in past decades under different laws” and “no one knows how many legal guns are in private hands in the District.” In conjunction with the story, the Post also has this tool which allows one to search the number of registered firearms by ZIP code so you can dig through the data, too.

Shelter in Place: In light of the massive gridlock during the snowstorm on January 26, District government officials have proposed a plan which would temporarily evacuate major arterial roads in the event of another rush hour blast. Under the plan, District residents would have to move their vehicles on to side streets so that plows and emergency vehicles could access bigger roads. D.C. would also coordinate better with surrounding suburban jurisdictions. The plan is a response to a growing concern that the city’s emergency evacuation options are less-than-optimal. Tim Craig has the write-up from yesterday’s Council hearing.

Chipotle Feeling The Heat: 60 Chipotle restaurants in the Washington region have received “notices of inspections” from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to determine whether they are in compliance with federal employment eligibility laws. The burrito chain recently fired a large number of employees in its Minnesota outposts after similar audits discovered hundreds of illegal workers. A Chipotle spokesperson told the Examiner that he wasn’t sure why ICE was “picking on” the company, while an ICE spokeswoman wouldn’t confirm or deny that the chain was under investigation.
