There should be no surprise that on any given weekend, D.C. police and Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration inspectors confiscate run into several fake ID cards — especially in certain sections of the city. According to an examiner.com story, ABRA and D.C. police officers found 20 fake cards last Thursday night at Third Edition. The story also notes that most of the cards were taken from students mostly from Georgetown and George Washington universities.

Apparently one drinker never learned that “snitches get stitches,” readily admitting that they obtained the ID from a Chinese website, “Id Chief.” The uncannily accurate IDs produced by the website has raised concerns among investigators and federal activities. I would hope so, since they go for up to $200 per pair. D.C. penalties for fake identification can be lofty, however the students weren’t charged and were remanded to their colleges for disciplinary action. Why we should be surprised, I’m not sure. Fake IDs, particularly in a metropolitan city like ours, are a de riguer aspect of nightlife — sometimes even parodied or sensationalized. But perhaps knowing that most of the riff-raff is corralled into certain ID-lax establishments offers some comfort.
