In case you had yet to notice, the visage of a smiling Mayor Vince Gray began lording over the top banner of the District of Columbia’s website this weekend.

This is standard practice — former Mayor Adrian Fenty had his mug prominently displayed across the top section of the District’s website during his administration, a space that often featured a slideshow of the Mayor as he was out and about in the city. But we’re really not sure what to think about the resigned banner, aesthetically speaking — it’s all just very 2006, like if former mayor Anthony Williams had blown up his headshot, included a logo and slogan from his campaign and strangely embraced empty, unused blue space.

Thoughts, commentariat?
