Photo by Amberture.Well, here’s a new one: Kytja Weir reports that a Metro supervisor, who had been hoarding over 70 pieces of Metro-owned equipment like computer monitors, cameras and a generator inside his home, will not face any criminal charges because — wait for it — WMATA “may have served to create an atmosphere where such behavior, although not explicitly condoned or excused, was part of an implicitly tolerated practice.”
So, in short: Metro never told the guy it wasn’t okay to steal from them.
Weir also notes that Metro should have been able to figure out what the employee was doing — after all, he bought some of the equipment with a Metro-issued credit card and even took some of the items directly from a Hyattsville Metro facility. But by the time they got around to firing the supervisor, he had already logged enough time to earn his pension.
