Photo by ekelly80.We’ve been hearing from a few people around D.C. — who may or may not have spent the night on the couch last night — that some Valentines didn’t end up getting their flowers yesterday. It sounds like the root cause of the problem might have been a popular deal between Groupon and floral retailer FTD that might have been a little too ambitious, considering that February 14 is one of the few days on the calendar on which everyone wants flowers delivered.
Last week, FTD and Groupon extended an offer which not only led to allegations of price inflation and refunds, but probably didn’t help the company meet the demand for flowers to be delivered around the city yesterday.
In response, FTD is spending the afternoon apologizing for the delays to customers via Twitter, and the corporate remorse sure makes for some funny reading. If you had an issue with delivery yesterday, you might want to shoot them a tweet and see about making it right.
Here’s our advice: next year, how about skipping the flowers and getting your loved one something that might not die while in transit? And if that’s not an option, just call your friendly neighborhood florist.
