FASHION: D.C. Fashion Week kicks off tonight with a reception at Kellari Taverna (1700 K Street NW). The first 75 people to arrive get a free glass of champagne. There will be a jewelry and accessories fashion show. 6-9 p.m. Free.

MOVIE: Three Oscar nominees are on tonight’s Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse’s (2903 Columbia Pikem Arlington) $1 movie night slate. See Winter’s Bone at 4:30 p.m., The Social Network at 7:20 p.m., or Inception at 9:50 p.m. $1 each.

POETRY: Love is so much better in New York? Hear author Ariel Sabar read from his book Heart of the City: Nine Stories of Love and Serendipity on the Streets of New York at Politics & Prose (5015 Connecticut Avenue NW). 7 p.m. Free.

MUSIC: Tristen brings her greetings from Nashville to the Red Palace (1210 H Street NE). D.C. locals Daddy Lion will also perform. 8:30 p.m. $10.

TUESDAY: This past weekend, 30 D.C. teams set out to make an “eco-themed short film” in just 48 short hours. Come see their six-minute films focused on themes like “animals,” “the forest” and “the sea,” at the “48 Go Green” screening at AFI Silver Theater (8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring). 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. $11.

WEDNESDAY: See a free screening of the Oscar nominated documentary Waste Land at National Archives’ William G. McGowan Theater. Tickets are distributed at the Special Events entrance on Constitution Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets NW one hour before the show. 7 p.m. Free.

THURSDAY: Your fearless DCist Editor-in-Chief Aaron Morrissey sits down to chat with You, Me, Them, Everybody at The Looking Glass Lounge (3634 Georgia Avenue NW) Thursday. Comedian Hillary Buckholtz and musical guest Drawbridges will also be on the scene. 8 p.m. Free.

FRIDAY: Celebrate Intersections, “a new America arts festival” featuring theater, dance and music that kicks off this Friday and runs through March 13th, with an Arts Fest Bar Quest sponsored by Washington City Paper. Start off at Smith Commons (1245 H Street NE) to see Comedian Rob Maher and a Speakeasy storyteller (5 p.m.), then head to H Street Country Club (1335 H Street NE) for a performance by someone from Sulu DC (6 p.m.), and round out the night with drink specials at SOVA (1359 H Street NE), Star and Shamrock (1341 H Street NE), and Smith Commons. (7 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 10 p.m.)
