FOOD & DRINK: Café Atlántico (405 8th Street NW) is celebrating Brazil’s Carnaval with a events over the next few days, including a martial arts demonstration and a three-course dinner. Start off tonight with a free cachaça (a Brazilian spirit) tasting. 4-6 p.m. Free.

DANCE: Hear live Cajun and zydeco music from the Junkyard Saints and Squeeze Bayou, while you learn dance steps, enjoy king cakes and, most importantly, support music for kids during the Louisiana Dance Party at the Torpedo Factory (105 N. Union Street, Alexandria). The event is being thrown by and benefits the nonprofit Hungry for Music. 8 p.m. $20.

VARIETY: Contortionists, glass walkers, ukulele players, burlesque babes and other circus acts take the stage for the “But Wait! There’s More!” variety show at the Red Palace (1210 H Street NE). Doors open at 9 p.m. and the show starts at 10. $15.

STORYTELLING: Hear tales of “donating sperm, marrying into another culture, being a parent, surviving a family of 13 with 6 adopted children, and more” at Speakeasy’s “Mixed, Blended, Shaken, & Stirred: Stories about Today’s American Family” storytelling event tonight and tomorrow at The Atlas Performing Arts Center’s Sprenger Theatre (1333 H Street NE). This is a part of the Intersections arts festival. 7:30 p.m. tonight and 9:30 tomorrow. $18.

KARAOKE: Town Danceboutique (2009 8th Street NW) is throwing a GLEEtacular event tonight, featuring live Glee-like performances, sing-a-long videos and karaoke. 10 p.m. $10.

MUSIC: Pair live music from The Caribbean with readings from Matthew Pitt (Attention Please Now) and James Allen Hannaham (God Says No) and you have the Story/Stereo event at the Writer’s Lounge in Bethesda (4508 Walsh Street, Bethesda). 8 p.m. Free.

>> The Junior League Band, with banjo player Lissy Rosemont, perform during Friday Night Eclectic at the Strathmore (5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda). From 8 to 9 p.m., their PBR Happy Hour offers 16-ounce PBRs for $2. 8 p.m. $10 in advance or $12 at the door.

MOVIE: Like to share your opinions about films? Help documentary filmmakers improve their work by giving them feedback at the Work-in-Progress Screening at The Documentary Center at the George Washington University (805 21st Street NW).
