>> The Washington Post details the contractors hired to monitor D.C.’s troubled youth as well as the $400,000 grant for GPS ankle devices that threatens their jobs. Reporters tagged along with the monitors, painting a picture of the mentoring role many take in these kid’s lives. It’s a must read.
>> Multiple brawls broke out at the DMV Music Awards in a Hyatt hotel in Crystal City last night. Reports of more than 20 people fighting in the audience prompted Arlington police to send every available unit to the venue, a rare step according to ARLNow. The violence sent at least five people to area hospitals. But as of last night, no arrests had been made as the investigation is still ongoing.
>> An arrest has been made in one of the early Saturday morning shootings. Ronald G. Pickett, a 26-year-old from Southeast D.C. man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of shooting and killing 36-year-old Vanessa McGee on the 4700 block of B Street SE.
>> Banana Leaves, the Asian restaurant at 20th and Florida Streets NW, caught on fire last night and sustained approximately $200,000 worth of damage. No one was injured in the fire that was caused by a malfunctioning gas water heater. The restaurant is closed for now.
