We here at DCist HQ hope editor-in-chief Aaron is having a grand day off and that there weren’t too many typos and misspeellings while I guest-helmed the ship. And here are your toaster-leavins for the day:
- Now that we’ve exhaled after the safe landing of the shuttle Discovery, we can hold our collective breathes once again. During NASA’s post-landing briefing this afternoon, representatives said that they’ll be ready to hand the keys (do shuttles have keys?) to Discovery off as early as this fall. If the National Air & Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center is the lucky recipient, we could be visiting this most-flown shuttle nearby by Thanksgiving.
- Wednesday marks the one-year anniversary for same-sex marriage in D.C. Happy first.
- With their forces combined, they are unstoppable. Here are pictures of Arlington’s holiday mashup of its Mardi Gras/St. Patrick’s Day parade last night.
- The Arlington drinking scene earns another nod today with this tidbit of news that Andrew Stewart, former owner of Dr. Dremo’s, is still looking to revive the taphouse. He hopes to keep the mainstay in the Courthouse or Clarendon area, but costs could forcde him elsewhere.
- Washington Post political columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner David Broder, 81, died of complications from diabetes today. Broder won his Pulitzer in 1973 for his analysis of the Watergate scandal.
- Doron Petersan, owner of D.C.’s own Sticky Fingers Bakery, along with head baker Jenny Webb, won the second season of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars last night. The winning recipe: Gilbert ganache-fried cupcakes. Fried ganache? That’s not even fair…
- $150 for an iPad? Yup, that’s quite literally a steal, according to court documents for the arraignment of the four MPD officers accused of knowingly purchasing stolen electronics.
- Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) coming to a neighborhood near you with his ‘rediscover the bus‘ listening tour.
- Jacque Patterson faced the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics today, hoping to stay on the ballot for the April 26 At-Large Special Election.
