MOVIE: The Hirshhorn (700 Independence Ave. SW) presents Bill Cunningham New York, a documentary about the New York Times fashion photographer who, even though he’s in his 80s, explores the city by bike, capturing style in the wild. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Free.

>> AFI Silver Theater (8633 Colesville Rd. Silver Spring MD) kicks of its New African Films Festival tonight with The Athlete, which tells the story of the first African to win the gold for the marathon in the 1960 Olympics. Following the film there will be a reception catered by Abol Ethiopian Cuisine. 7 p.m. $25.
