HAPPY HOUR: The D.C. chapter of the Sierra Club is hosting a transit happy hour at Uniontown Bar and Grill (2200 Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. SE) near the Anacostia Metro station. Join them and other transit advocates for drinks and discussion on improving transportation in D.C. 6 p.m.

MOVIE: Black Swan, featuring Natalie Portman in her Oscar-winning turn, comes to the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington) for $1 movie night. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7:30 p.m.

MUSIC: Lost In The Trees, Bob Boilen of NPR’s favorite new band of 2010, performs at the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW), with Brice Randall Bickford. 9 p.m. $12.

>> The Karabakh Foundation event Turksoy: Music and Dance of the Turkic World at Lincoln Theatre (1215 U Street NW) will feature traditional song and dance from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova. 7 p.m. Free, but advance registration requested.

BOOKS: Cal Ripken Jr. discusses his children’s book (for ages 8-12) Hot Head at Politics and Prose (5015 Connecticut Avenue NW) tonight. He will also sign copies of the book and pose for pictures. 3:30-5:30 p.m.

TUESDAY: Washington Post columnist Joe Yonan presents a six-course Eat, Meet, Love? dinner featuring dishes from his book Serve Yourself: Nightly Adventures in Cooking for One at the National Press Club’s 4th Estate Restaurant (529 14th Street NW, 13th Floor). While couples and groups are welcome to attend, singles are especially encouraged to come and will be grouped at tables together to mingle. 6 p.m. $93.

WEDNESDAY: The Grand Sushi Event at National Geographic Live (1600 M Street NW) will feature a seven-course meal of sustainable sushi prepared by Genji Sushi paired with sake and wine, as well as a talk by Casson Trenor, author and founder of Tataki Sushi Bar in San Francisco. 7 p.m. Tickets: $100.

THURSDAY: An Evening with James Franco brings in the Oscar-nominated actor for a night of food and discussion to benefit 826DC, an organization that works with local kids on their writing skills. The event at The Hotel Monaco (700 F Street NW) Thursday is a true fundraiser, so tickets are quite pricey: VIP tickets are $1,000, and General Admission will set you back $250. 6:30-7:30 p.m. VIP reception, 7:30-10 p.m. dinner.
