Cut Copy: they look exactly how you’d think.MONDAY
Not to be confused with Trophy Wife, the latest project from Del Cielo‘s Katy Otto, Trophy Wives is a new project from the gents who have brought you Elliott, Coliseum and Breather Resist. Dust off your ol’ Jade Tree (or Revelation) hoodie and let the post-hardcore wash over you. At DC9 with Phonic Riot. 8:30 p.m. $8.
TUESDAY
Love ’em or loathe em, Cut Copy know their way around a synthesizer and a hook. Their latest album Zonoscope was released last month to more than a few shrugs, but if its briskly sold-out run at 9:30 is any indication, this city’s brightest young things just can’t get enough. With the DFA approved Holy Ghost!. 7:00 p.m. Sold out.
>> DC9: Pearl and the Beard, Deathblack Flowers. 8:00 p.m. $8.
>> The Velvet Lounge: The Body, Whitehorse, The Gift. 9:00 p.m. $8.
>> Birchmere: Kaki King, Joe Robinson. 7:30 p.m., $25.
WEDNESDAY
Based on the increasingly loud buzz surrounding Papercuts’ Sub Pop debut Fading Parade, it’s likely they’ll outgrow the Backstage of The Black Cat pretty soon. For those who enjoy a healthy dose of despondency with their pop music, tonight’s bill with the unfortunately named Banjo or Freakout is a no-brainer. 9:00 p.m. $10.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: STRFKR, Casiokids. 8:30 p.m. $12.
>> 9:30 Club: Cut Copy, Holy Ghost!. 7:00 p.m. Sold out.
>> Red Palace: The Cave Singers, Lia Ices. 8:30 p.m. $12.
THURSDAY
In a town with its fair share of lifers, nobody better encapsulates the term than Mike Watt, who’s here promoting a new album (the high-minded 30-song Hyphenated-Man, which takes its inspiration from the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch) with a new-ish band (The Missingmen) at The Black Cat’s Backstage. At 53, we should all be so lucky. The Internet-averse Suns of Guns open. 8:30 p.m. $13.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: The Felice Brothers, Diamond Doves. 8:30 p.m., $18.
FRIDAY
The dream of the (early) ’90s (okay, mid-’80s) come alive at The Black Cat with the melancholy dance-pop of Twin Shadow along with Slumberland’s finest, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, whose new album Belong is sure to make a few springtime playlists. 9:00 p.m. $17.
For another inspired pairing, head over to Comet for an evening of unsettling puppetry with David Liebe Hart of Tim and Eric fame and D.C. super-ish group America Hearts for what will surely make for a memorable evening. 10:30 p.m. $10.
>> Red Palace: Gold Panda, Dan Mantle, OUTPUTMESSAGE. 9:30 p.m. $10.
>> Iota: Mike Doughty, Clare Burson. 9:00 p.m. $25.
SATURDAY
The pickings tonight are slim, but solid: the ladies of Warpaint will kick out the expansive, hazy jams along with PVT and Family Band at The Black Cat. 9:00 p.m. $15.
Lil’ Wayne and Rick “Big Meech” Ross SUNDAY
Now that Weezy is free, he’s once again in the position to make bold claims like, for instance, titling his latest tour “I’m Still Music.” So long as that helps him forget he’s not a human being, we should all be thankful. On Sunday at The Verizon Center, Lil’ Wayne is joined with a who’s who line-up including Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Mix Master Mike and, uh, Blink-182’s Travis Barker, who apparently just released an album entitled Give the Drummer Some. ‘Cause he’s keeping it real. 7:00 p.m. $49.75-125.75.
Along those lines, The Jeffery Lewis Band and Spoonboy of The Max Levine Ensemble will bring the acoustic noise at The Doll House. 6:30 p.m. $5.
>>9:30 Club: The Black Angels, Suuns. 7:00 p.m., $20.
>>Black Cat Backstage: Royal Bangs, Raindeer. 8:30 p.m., $10.
