Floods Moved Fast, Lawsuits Moving Faster: The Washington Harbour in Georgetown is only now recovering from a flood that struck late last weekend, but a class action lawsuit has already been filed against the management company for failing to raise flood walls quickly enough to head off the rising waters, reports WJLA. The lawsuit, which was filed by a number individuals who claim they will lose income due to the floods, seeks $5 million in damages. Meanwhile, sources tell DCist that offices inside the Harbour will be undergoing inspections today, with the hopes that tenants will be able to get back in shortly thereafter.
Closing Days of At-Large Campaign Get Nasty: The Post’s Mike DeBonis reports that a number of candidates vying for the At-Large seat on the D.C. Council are going negative in the closing days of a tight contest; expect a few harshly worded mailers this weekend. In related news, remember that you can cast an in-person absentee ballot today and through the weekend (8:30-8 on Saturday, 12:30-5:30 on Sunday) and on Monday (8:30-5:30) at the office of the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics in Judiciary Square. If not, April 26 is Election Day! (Adding to the long list of endorsements, the Examiner’s Harry Jaffe is going for Patrick Mara.)
Briefly Noted: Former D.C. mayor can’t get voting right letter to Obama … D.C. spending on youth internment in other states being scrutinized … Virginia to sue to stop transfer of defense workers to Alexandria …Meteor shower coming Friday night .. Injured D.C. firefighters speak out.
This Day in DCist: On this day in 2010, none other than Sulaimon Brown complained that he wasn’t invited to the first candidate forum of the campaign season and Tom Colicchio hit up Ben’s Chili Bowl. In 2009, we were shocked to find out that U.S. Capitol Police officers were on Facebook and Ingmar Guandique arrived in D.C. to face charges in Chandra Levy’s killing.
